We had planned to take a southern route home to Colorado from Northern California . . . . we wanted to go through Las Vegas and drive through Monument Valley and visit Moab, Utah . . . . . BUT . . . . with the already soaring temperatures and the fact that we've got to go to South Dakota to get our new driver's licenses anyway, we're going to head east from Medford, Oregon to South Dakota. I'm disappointed but we'll head south in the fall on the way to Key West for the winter. The motorhome is an experience unto itself. We spent almost a thousand dollars getting a base plate put on our 2001 Escape and have now towed the car about 150 miles with no problem. I'm still paranoid that somehow the key will turn and the steering wheel will lock in place . . . and destroy the tires! so I walk along side of the car as we pull out each time!! I haven't driven it yet - Rich has done all the driving. It looks scary . . . but I've got to get on board and do my share of driving. We have Gear Vendors - which really seems complicated. Something else new that I need to learn. Fancy was freaking out the first few rides but she's now claimed the sofa and sits up and looks out the window. Gracie wants to ride in the front windshield. But she'll settle for my lap. Our first trek was out of Crescent City towards Medford on Hwy. 199 . . . . beautiful and scenic but a winding, narrow mountain road!!! The bluest river I've seen since Alaska. I'm so excited about getting to go back to Key West and stay at the military RV park!! No more $2k per month RV sites!! I'm just excited about being back on the road after the nightmare we've been through this winter. Rich and I are still trying to work out our differences. I hated to leave the great counselor we found but we're not going to be able to have a counselor with us on the road so we're going to have to figure things out on our own. One day at a time.
