Hey everyone, I'm Dana. I don't own an RV yet but want to learn more. I'm thinking it would be a great way to travel for my husband and 2 daughters - 8 and 6. I'd like to learn the truth about the Class B (don't trust the sales lit stuff). As far as lifestyle, would they be too small for a famiy of 4? We'd like to use it for Fall weekend trips, plus a week in Spring and a 10 days in summer going out west. (live in Alabama) Should I consider the C instead? How do they compare mpg-wise?

Thanks ahead of time for your feedback.

Dana

Dana,

The Class B coaches I have seen appear to be designed for a max of 2 people. I'm not in sales, I'm a workcamper who happens to be Webmaster for an RV dealer in Florida. This dealer sells Airstream Class B coaches. They are beautiful but too compact for 4 people. You could spend up to $100,000 on a Class B Airstream!

A Class C coach sounds like it would work for you. It's built on a van chassis but the coach part is wider and often has additonal sleeping quarters over the driving cab.

Use the Web to window shop. You can visit the site I built, www.sandersrvs.com and look at our Class B (1 in stock) and Class C (3 or 4 in stock) These are all pre-owned units. I think my photos will provide a sense of how much room each unit has.

Having said all this, I've often wondered what it would be like hookup a folding camper (Trailmanor for example) to a Class B like the Airstream Interstate and head down the road. I envision dropping the trailer at, say, the KOA in Needles, CA - that becomes home base - then, driving the Class B to Hoover Dam or other points of interest. Stay overnight (don't ever rush me) and then return to "basecamp."

I bought a used Pleasure-Way Class B about six weeks ago. It's a 19-footer and has a driver's seat and a passenger seat up front. I've gone on two long weekends with it so far. I travel solo (well, with my cat Eddie) and I'm 5'1" tall. I honestly cannot imagine how two (or more) people could comfortably fit in that rig. I leave the couch permanently pulled out to twin bed size, but the couch isn't set up for passengers anyway (no seat belts). It's perfect for me, but as a friend of mine remarked, "It fits one comfortably and two passionately."

Just my two cents...

I agree with the above.  I think that the Class B will be too small for your family to vacation comfortably.  A Class C Motorhome or even a fifth wheel might be a better option for you.  I have provided links to a great RV Finder under the names above that will hopefully help you narrow down your search.  Best of luck!
