Hi, folks: I'm a reporter for a news-interview show on Colorado Public Radio in Denver. I'm researching a story on the impact of gas prices on tourism and I'm looking for RVers in or outside of Colorado who may have changed their travel plans this summer due to the high cost of gas. You can reach me at mfulcher@cpr.org

Hi, My Husband and I were planning on leaving this month for a five-month trip to Alaska. We canceled this trip due to the cost of diesel. We are hoping to make the trip next year instead and hope the prices are better then. BamaGal (Gail Craigmile)

In times of great change you’ll find two types of people; those who curse the rain and those who open an umbrella. Why sit around cursing gas prices? Does anyone really think we will ever see diesel in the $3 range again? Maybe it is time for a lifestyle checkup! Like a financial or medical checkup, the lifestyle checkup is to see what you must change to get the results you desire. The only thing in life that is constant is change. My wife, our beagle Sarg and I choose to travel shorter distances and stay longer. The days of rambling from Florida to Alaska are over for all but the most financially well off. That does not mean RVing is over. While the non-RVing mainstream media paints a picture of doom and gloom for RVing I see the opposite. I am a national speaker and author who loves working in the RV industry. I ask a couple of simple question to all of the 100+ RV rallies and groups I speak to each year; 1) how many of you are concerned about the price of fuel? (Most hands go up) 2) anyone think fuel prices will go down in the future (almost no hands go up) 3) how many are thinking of selling your RV and quitting the RV lifestyle? (no hands go up). Once you get a taste for RVing you do not want to give it up. We will give up most anything to keep the lifestyle. If your RVing destination is 500 miles away (1,000 miles total) you use 111 gallons but traveling 200 miles round trip only requires 22 gallons. Why not see the sights in that area in your dingy vehicle at 30 MPG and reduce your expenses while stretching your RVing dollar. This positive new is most likely not what you were looking for. We all know that good news doesn’t sell very well but maybe it will help some RVer continue enjoying this wonderful lifestyle. Umbrella anyone? If I'm honest, I haven't much changed my plans or behaviours. I'm glad now though that prices are coming down a fair bit so that I can spend a bit more on food! --------------------------------- www.lakeshore-rv.com

Thanks RP for that wonderful insight on what is out there in our big beautiful world! We are just a few weeks from beginning our life as full time RVers and we are so excited. We know fuel prices are not going anywhere but up, but thats OK. Our umbrella is open, and we are just going to make the best of it. We are not getting any younger! Thanks to this forum for helping us to make this decision! We look forward to meeting you all in person. See ya soon Jim, Shannon and the 4 4-legged brats
